Why Forgiveness Releases Energy

Forgiveness has long been viewed as a virtue that releases negative energy and allows light to flow into the body. This energy is then redirected to the self, charging and energizing the whole person. It has also been seen as a way to release the burden of anger, resentment and hatred.

But most articles that talk about this topic only circle around the idea of forgiveness from a detached perspective and don’t give you a clear path to actually achieve it. You want to know why it releases energy, what the actual process is and how you can do it for yourself.

For most people, forgiving someone is a process of letting go of negative feelings, such as anger, bitterness, resentment, fear and related trauma triggers, that can lead to illness, stress, anxiety, depression, sleep problems, rage, addiction and a host of other conditions. 

Forgiveness is a powerful, life-changing tool for the mind and body. It’s a powerful step on the journey to healing and can be very difficult to do, especially when the offending person refuses or doesn’t offer an apology for their actions.

One popular theory about why forgiveness releases energy is that it reduces the production of cortisol, a hormone that damages tissues in the brain and body. Cortisol can wreak havoc on the immune system, preventing it from doing its job of fighting off infections and inflammation. When you forgive, the cortisol level in the body decreases and allows the immune system to do its work more effectively.

Another reason that forgiveness releases energy is that it helps you refocus your emotional energies. Forgiveness can shift your focus from resenting the offending person to feeling empathy, compassion and even affection for them. This is because your energy is no longer focused on resenting them but on the fact that you can now think of them in a more positive, healthy way.

Other physical benefits of forgiveness include better sleep, less stress, fewer episodes of depression and improved self-esteem. Forgivers are also more likely to follow their healthcare recommendations, which leads to healthier lifestyles overall.

Forgiveness promotes greater life satisfaction, which is a significant contributor to the quality of our lives. Forgivers tend to have a more positive outlook on life and are less likely to abuse substances or other coping mechanisms in order to deal with negative emotions.

The final reason that forgiveness releases energy is that it promotes better heart health. Studies have shown that people who are forgivers are less likely to suffer from a heart attack and have lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
