Understanding Karma: The Key to Health, Happiness, and Success

Reading Time: 3 minutes

What is karma? Sometimes, it is better to define something by what it is not. That is probably the best way to understand karma. In our Western pop culture world, we often hear karma referred to as good or bad. This predisposes judgment. However, it’s important to remember that karma is not about judgment.  Good and bad signify punishment or retribution if a deed is not morally correct. But what is morally correct is subjective, depending upon your culture and point of view.  Karma, therefore, is not about punishment or rewards but simply the universal use of energy known as cause and effect. This reiteration should reassure you that karma is not a system of judgment but rather a natural law.

The laws of karma state that every action (cause), thought, word, or deed produces a physical or mental effect. life becomes what life does.

Karma supports the idea of reincarnation, which means the continual cycle of birth and rebirth to remove our karmic burdens. According to Karma, before rebirth, we actively choose the circumstances in which we have the greatest opportunity to discover the nature of our earthly mission and what we are here to learn and correct. Awareness of this choice of circumstances, including the body, the family, and the life, emphasizes our role in the karmic cycle, making us feel empowered and responsible.

According to karma, we leave this world with unfinished business. We go to the holdover place, a temporary resting place where we can reflect upon our past good deeds and misdeeds. It’s a place of introspection, not a final destination. When the time is right, we return to another life to fulfill our mission.

The soul does not possess human senses, feelings, or emotions and thus must return to earth in human form to experience the process of humanness.

Our lives are shaped by our karma. Every action, thought, or deed we do has a consequence, and these consequences come in percentages. These percentages greatly influence the nature of our lives. It’s not about good or bad, it’s about balance. Understanding this can help us make better choices and live more harmoniously.

  1. The smallest percentage of karmarelates to the length of your life. No matter what you do, negative or positive, this karma determines the length of your life. The percentage is 5 percent. This is an interesting concept as we can see that the length of our life is not nearly as important as the nature of our life.
  2. Name and fame equal 6 percent. Each equals 3 percent, so your name and level of notoriety are 6 percent of your reason for being in this incarnation.
  3. The karmathat determines your individuality equals 8 percent, and the karma that determines your family and family origin is another 8 percent for a total of 16 percent.
  4. The karma of knowledge, happiness, and awareness equals 12 percent for 36 percent. Remember, negative karma can block happiness (12 percent of your being) just as it can hinder knowledge and the ability to see things as they are.
  5. Belief and conduct each make up 9 ½ percent of your karmafor a total of 19 percent
  6. The karmaof joy equals 18 percent. The most significant amount of negative karma goes into prohibiting the expression of joy.

This means your karma is divided into percentages that rule different areas of your life. We cannot change our individuality or family of origin. still, we can change the other 84 %: name and fame, knowledge, happiness and awareness, beliefs and conduct, and the expression of joy.   Using these percentages, we can see ways to improve our lives.  How you conduct yourself has a lot to do with the quality of your health. Expressing joy supports happiness and knowledge, and awareness leads to success.

But this takes work, and that is krama. Over the next few months, I will share with you the four great passions we are all here to work on if we find the ultimate gifts of life, health, happiness, and success. Stay tuned; there is more to come…

Namaste~ may you walk the path of life with health, happiness and peace.
